Forum Title: Why is Carpet Installation Considered Easy?
This was brought up over the weekend that laminate takes a higher skill level than carpet. Click to expand... It was also mentioned that It's the one thing the Homeowner/Builder can't just do. Click to expand... The box stores in this area have DIY for ceramic, vinyl, laminate, hardwood, Lvt, and anything else that goes on the floor BUT carpet? Why is that? Is it the fact that the tools are so much different then anything else? You only need a few basic tools to install laminate and vinyl if your DIYing. You just need a tile cutter to install ceramic. Around here, if you're a certain nationality you automatically know how to install ceramic. So why is carpet installation at the bottom of the barrel? Just wondering what your thoughts are on this.

Every yahoo in creation thinks they can do laminate, and we have seen lots of guys who butcher it for pay. We never see DIYers doing their own carpet. IMHO, it is the most difficult floorcovering to get done correctly. One of our colleagues brought back a section of carpet which had been stapled over a stair nosing ~ he was bleating like a stuck pig about the 1+1/2 spacing between staples being too close together; we staple about every 1/4-1/2 under nosings to get a nice crease. I did comment to him that he would hate ripping out OUR work.

Here a lino layer can lay carpet better than a carpet layer can lay vinyl. The carpet layers seem to have trouble with their knee kickers on vinyl and most carpet layers will not touch vinyl The lino layers here all used to do the stick down carpet

Jon they have/had kickers that had suction cups for the old Interflex. So I don't see a problem with kickers and vinyl. One thing I'll give a vinyl layer credit for is he can find a pattern faster than a carpet installer. Daris
